Cycling Through The Aegean Jewels
Daily Program
Day 01
Arrive in Izmir Airport. Transfer to hotel overlooking the Aegean Sea in Kusadasi. Dinner and overnight.
Day 02
After breakfast drive to Ephesus ancient city. Enjoy a privately guided tour exploring the city in depth experiencing the high-end life style of Terrace Villas, visiting Temple of Hadrian, Celsus Library and Roman Theatre. Concluding your sightseeing, have a short drive to an olive farm that is also operated as a local tavern by its owners. Enjoy a cooking class given by the mother of the landlord and enjoy your lunch that you yourself would prepare. In the afternoon hop on your bikes and lead your way to Sultankoy to visit the Train Museum that displays locomotives and carriages of early 20th century. Continue your ride through olive groves on to Kirazli Village (Route 01). Enjoy your tea break at a cafe sitting with locals. Continue on to Kusadasi for dinner and overnight.
Day 03
Depart for the charming resort town of Bodrum on bikes. Ride 20 km to Soke and move on to Priene. Tour of Priene, a Hellenistic city having numerous precious ruins dating back to Hellenistic period. Continue to Miletus, the hometown of many famous personalities of history including Thales, Greek philosopher of 7th century BC, and Hippodamus, the city planner that invented the grid-plan city structuring that most of US cities have been built with. Your next stop is Temple of Apollo at Didyma There were three temples of the ancient Greek civilization that were identical with each other; Temple of Hera on Island Samos, Temple of Artemis in Ephesus and Temple of Apollo at Didyma. Among the three edifices, the one that has been able to survive up to today with its grandeur and breathtaking columns is the Apollo Temple (Route 02). Continue to Bodrum taking the scenic route along Bafa Lake after lunch at Kamaci Restaurant in Didim. After the lunch you ride through Ancient city of Iassos (Route 03 or 04). Seafood dinner at Memedof Restaurant at Bodrum Marina after a short relaxation at the hotel.
Day 04
Tour of Bodrum peninsula on bikes. Ride your bikes to the peaceful cove of Yali, hosting a local olive farm for the opportunity to listen to an expert explain the production of olive oil and observe the equipments that enable the processing of the olives of the Aegean region to obtain olive oil of the finest quality. Continue North and North-West toward Turkbuku and Gumusluk circumnavigation the beautiful peninsula of Bodrum Enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant in Gumusluk before you leave the tranquility of the village. (Route 05). Late afternoon swim break at the beaches surrounding Bodrum. Explore the town center with its cozy Mediterranean architecture and historical monuments. Walk to the Crusaders’ Castle of St. Peter’s to explore the English Tower that is decorated as the feast-hall of the knights of St. John who were once the masters of this gigantic edifice.
Day 05
This morning you will enjoy a ferry ride crossing the bay of Bodrum on to the peninsula of Datca. Docking at the shores, you will enjoy a stunning experience of biking with serene views of Aegean Sea. Tour the ruins of Knidos that once controlled the sea trade in Southwest Aegean Sea. After sightseeing of Datca continue your ride, pedaling through villages and pine forests on to Datca (Route 06).
Day 06
A gorgeous day of biking and overseeing views and panorama of Aegean Sea embraced by hilltops covered by pine forests. Pedal your way on to Hisaronu village. En route your will enjoy picnic lunch specially prepared by your staff. See local villages and olive groves (Route 07). Dinner and overnight.
Day 07
Southwest shores of Turkey will truly enchant you. Enjoy your ride pedaling around the Bozburun peninsula all the way to Icmeler/Marmaris (Route 08). Dinner and overnight in Icmeler/Marmaris.
